Who is Matty Jorissen?

Surprising no one, I went into animation. All my life I have been fascinated by the medium. Since primary school I tried to find ways to animate.
Ultimately, I moved to Belgium to fully pursue an education in animation film-making where intensive script lessons are also taught. My passions lie in both classic 2D animation and screenwriting, I have just as much love for images as I do for the written word. I love how many art forms animation combines. From a writing standpoint, I can cram many genres of storytelling and/or styles of comedy into a tight script. From a drawing standpoint, I can play with the way things look and move. Both the writing and drawing can be exaggerated while still making a believable point. My style is described as imaginatively out of the box while simultaneously having an internal logic.
Otherwise, I also have a deep fondness for ink painting and cartooning. I just love laying down ink strokes with a brush and putting a wash layer on top of it.
I create animations and illustrations as free work as well as commercial work commissioned by clients, always focused on evoking an emotional reaction.
At the end of the day, I just want to create impactful cartoons worthy of framing.
I am situated in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, where I have a studio in Videolab on Strijp-S.
Thanks for reading,

Matty Jorissen
